Every major breakthrough begins with a question. How can we make this work better? How can we solve this problem? How can we improve lives through innovation? These are the kinds of questions engineers ask every day. But engineering is about much more than machines, structures, or calculations. At its heart, engineering is about solving problems and creating solutions that make the world better. Today, we're joined by members of Team Protonics from the University of Port Harcourt, participants in the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad. The Olympiad, co-sponsored by Renaissance Africa Energy Company, provides a platform for young engineers to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges, showcase their creativity, and demonstrate the power of innovation. This conversation is about engineering, yes. But it's also about curiosity, resilience, teamwork, and the future young people are already helping to build. Again, today, the topic on Canvas is “Engineering the Future: Nigerian Engineering Olympiad.” And my guests are David Fubara and Akpan Ekemini Godwin. Fubara David Otokini is a final-year Electronics Engineering student at the University of Port Harcourt, an Embedded Systems Engineer, and Technical Lead of the Protronics Student Community. Passionate about robotics, IoT, automation, and smart technologies, he leads the development of practical engineering solutions to real-world challenges. He was part of the team behind KEYTRIC, the innovation that earned Team Protronics a place in the 2026 Nigerian Engineering Olympiad after emerging South-South regional champions. Akpan Ekemini Godwin is an Electronics and Computer Engineering student at the University of Port Harcourt with a passion for embedded systems, PCB design, and hardware innovation. He serves as Financial Officer of the Protronics Student Community and was part of the team behind Keytric, the smart door-lock solution that represented the University of Port Harcourt at the Nigerian Engineering Olympiad Finals. Passionate about engineering and problem-solving, he is building a career in hardware development and technology innovation.
